The Quaboag 350th Ball Committee auction of the hand painted tables (built by local craftsmen and painted for use at Quaboag 350th ball) will be held in the grand ballroom of the West Brookfield town hall on Saturday, May 15th, 2010 at 4:30 p.m. The rain date is Sunday, May 16th, same time, same place. The tables will be available for viewing from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the grand ballroom on Saturday and in the event of a rain postponement, they will also be available on Sunday, May 16th from 2 to 4 as well.
This date, according to ball co-chairmen Beverly andMert Kenniston, was chosen to coincide with the West Brookfield Asparagus and Flower Heritage Festival, which is scheduled to take place on West Brookfield’s common, Routes 9 and 67, on the same date -Saturday, May 15th,from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with the rain date on Sunday, May 16th.
“We want the people who plan to attend the asparagus festival to have the opportunity to see and bid on the tables as well,” Bev said. “We will have photos of the tables at the asparagus festival, and they may be seen at the town hall after 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon and Sunday in the event of a rain out.”
The tables, measuring approximately 16” x 40,” coffee table height (18”) were painted by area artists, who volunteered their services. Each table is individually painted with artist signature, and the underside of the table is hot iron branded with a brand especially created by local artist-blacksmith Rob Lyon. The brand features the Quaboag 350thlogo created by local artist Ron Couture. Twenty three of the tables were built by volunteers Dennis Martin, Dan Sykes, Alan Weeks, and Barry Nadon Jr.; 20 were painted – only the painted tables will be auctioned.
The brand has been donated to the Quaboag Historical Society; these tables will be significant souvenirs of the historic celebration, the Kennistons say. A certificate of authenticity will be provided with each table.
In addition to the tables, a number of items used at the ball for décor will be auctioned at that time. This list includes :
- 3double-light street lights (used on the balcony at the ball)
- General store storefront (used on the balcony – easy disassembly)
- General store sign
- 3’ X 26’ Burgundy entryway carpet
- 2snack/cereal dispensers
- 6 1960 300thanniversary banners
- Plus an additional assortment of items;
Several yards of gold lame’ with embedded lights ( used on stage, entry arch, entry window)
Battery operated candles
Candle reflecting mirrors – octagonal (these were used on top of hi-hat tables)
Candle ring decorations
Holiday roping decorations
2 4x8 sheets of vinyl lattice – new – used for the entry arch.
The Town hall will be opened for viewing on Saturday from 2 to 4:30 for viewing, unless the asparagus festival and auction are postponed due to rain. In which case, the town hall viewing will now take place on Saturday and Sunday from 2 – 4:30 with the auction taking place on Sunday, May 16th at 4:30 PM.
Auctioneer, Joe Craig, will conduct the auction.
All Proceeds of the auction will go to the Quaboag 350th fund, to help cover expenses throughout the year-long celebration.

Quaboag 350th Grand Ball
----------------------------------January 2nd, 2010 - Saturday--------------------------
The Quaboag area’s 350th anniversary Grand Ball was held Saturday, January 2, 2010 in the grand hall of West Brookfield’s town hall, following a 5:00 PM dinner at the Salem Cross Inn, West Brookfield.
A colonial dance demonstration was presented at 7:30 PM, followed by the march of the dignitaries to their seats of honor at 8:00 PM. Semi formal dress was the order of the evening, but the committee encouraged period costume.
